Originally developed by competitive angler Devin Olsen, the DNA Worm is a smart upgrade from traditional soft-bodied worm patterns. Built from a stretchy, spandex-like material instead of squirmy rubber, it maintains its shape, moves naturally in the water, and holds up to more fish. If anyone calls it a junk fly, just tell them you’re fishing a deoxyribonucleic acid pattern that imitates Lumbricus terrestris and watch them nod like they understand.
Specs:
- Tied on a curved scud style hook
- Two size #10 and two size #12 (all in the same color option)
What we like about this fly:
We like the beadless DNA Worm because it keeps things simple and effective. It moves well without feeling flashy, and the slower sink rate makes it ideal for shallow riffles, drop-offs, or picky trout in softer water. It holds up to multiple fish and fishes well year-round.
How to fish:
Drift it under a dry fly or indicator in slow seams, pockets, or shallow water where a beaded version might drop too fast. It’s especially effective during runoff, after rain, or whenever natural worms are likely to get dislodged and drift into the current.
