Perhaps closer to the original version designed by South African angler Garry Glen-Young, this variation of The Gun fly stays true to its tactical roots while dialing up the subtle triggers. Wrapped in UV flash and darkened along the back, it offers a slim, modern profile with just enough flash to grab attention. Fine black rubber legs provide movement even in soft current, and a fluorescent green hotspot underneath adds a final visual cue.

What we like about this fly: 

We like this version of The Gun because it stays subtle while still offering a clear trigger. The UV body reflects just enough light to stand out in deeper runs, while the black legs and green hotspot add movement and contrast without going full attractor junk fly mode. The extra long legs and tail are for sure a feature and not a bug ;)  It’s a sharp imitation of small mayflies and stone flies, patterns trout see often but anglers may not emphasize. A perfect low-key anchor in your nymph setup.

How to fish:

The Gun performs well under an indicator or as part of a dry-dropper setup. It's particularly effective in riffles, seams, and runs where trout are feeding near the bottom. Its design ensures it gets down quickly and maintains a natural drift.
