A slick riff on the flashy tinsel nymph family, the Purple Death pairs a pearlescent body (tinted by a purple under wrap) with a short fluorescent-orange hotspot and a sparse polypropylene wing. The result is a compact, high-contrast attractor that gets down quickly and shows up in a range of conditions almost going full disco. Simple, durable, and confidence-building.

What we like:

The pearlescent body, backed by purple thread, gives the fly a soft color shift that catches light. The fluorescent collar adds a contrast, drawing attention in just the right way. A sparse wing provides a faint silhouette and subtle texture. This fishes similarly to a rainbow warrior, but with more slim and subtle profile that your typical one. 

How to fish it:

Fish the Purple Death under a larger dry fly or with another small nymph about a foot above it. It sinks quickly, so it’s great for deeper runs or faster water where trout feed near the bottom. Cast slightly upstream and let it drift naturally with the current. It also works well under an indicator.
