The Spark That Started It All

So, how did Rescue River come to be? Well, it all began with a love for the great outdoors and a deep belief that nature has this amazing power to heal and rejuvenate us. Mix that with the art of fly fishing, and we saw a golden opportunity. An opportunity not just to create top-notch fishing gear but to make a real difference in the lives of young women who've been through some really tough times.

The idea was simple yet powerful: what if we could use the detailed and beautiful craft of fly tying as a way to help these young women heal, learn new skills, and build a brighter future? And that's exactly what we set out to do.

Our Heartbeat: The Mission

Right at the heart of everything we do is our mission to create the best darn flies and gear out there while making a genuine impact. We're talking about providing not just jobs but comprehensive support – financial literacy, counseling, mentorship – to young women who've survived sexual abuse.

Through partnerships with incredible organizations, we're able to welcome these brave souls into our program, teaching them the craft of fly tying and, in the process, helping them to rebuild their confidence and hope.

Why Start in Uganda?

You might be wondering, "Why Uganda?" Well, it's a beautiful country that, unfortunately, faces some serious challenges, including high unemployment rates and a lack of support for women escaping sexual abuse. By kicking things off in Kampala, we aim to shine a light of hope and offer real, tangible opportunities for empowerment.

As we set out on this journey, we're constantly reminded that there's strength in numbers. This blog is going to be a space for sharing not just our progress and adventures, but also the inspiring stories of the women we work with.
